Birthdays: what’s up with that?
My oldest son turns 20 today. How can a such a simple milestone make me feel like I’m in the middle of the wedding scene in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’? Like the song ‘Sunrise, Sunset’ goes, “I don’t remember getting older, when did he?”
It’s an incredible thing to watch you kids grow up, because you can reach back and remember all those other milestones, and it seems like last week. The problems don’t go away, in fact, I’d trade today’s problems for crayon drawings on the walls and scraped knees any day. It’s all perspective, I guess.
But now as I look up at the handsome young man (and see his dad at the same age), I realize it’s just another bend in the road, and there’s plenty more to come.
Happy Birthday, Zach!
Love,
Mom
