Things just keep getting better!

My friend, Cari Clement, started a great non-profit called Rwanda Knits. I just won and Honorable Mention in the Squidoo Super Hero contest, and $100.o0 for Cari’s cause by making a lens about her work, and how she got me started with my knitting co-ops in Uganda.

Take a look, and be amazed:

The lens has also won the title of Lens of the Day on Squidoo, so I get some kudos as well.Woo Hoo!

What do you give up for Lent?

February 6th begins the season of Lent. Every year I give up coffee and chocolate (I cannot actually fast because of my health). I also give up buying those little extras like Starbucks, lunches and dinners out and so on. I then calculate the savings from this, and donate it to a local charity, such as a shelter or food bank.

Lent is also a time of prayer and meditation, which seems to go well with the rainy, cold weather we’ve been having lately. There is always plenty to reflect upon in this life.

If you’ve never observed Lent, or you’d like to learn more, please visit http://www.squidoo.com/lent2me .

Thanks!

Sometimes, there just aren’t enough rocks…

Life plays hard sometimes, and sometimes you’ve had just more than you can stand from everyone.

Sometimes, people feel the need to make themselves feel better at your expense, especially when you’re not around to defend yourself. It’s easy then, they are free to throw and fling whatever they’ve got, and you just get the fallout.

Sometimes, people can’t get around their own guilt, so they turn things around to try and make you guilty of something. They are ignorant, petty, and even downright childish if no one else reigns them in. Sometimes, no one else does; in fact, they seem to take happiness in telling you they didn’t. Is it ok then, sometimes, to get angry?

I guess I’m in that place now, and I guess that sometime is right now.

When I was in Sweden I often sat by the stream that led to a larger river. The shore was covered with rocks, big sharp rocks that would have been great to just pick up and take aim…but, I didn’t want to take out a bird or a low flying plane; who knows, maybe even a fish… I remembered the scene from Forrest Gump when Jenny is throwing rocks at her old house, and she just can’t seem to find all the rocks she needs to throw, or the strength to throw them hard enough. Forrest observes “Sometimes, there just aren’t enough rocks.” I had a whole beach full of them, and even that would not have been enough for me.

I also saw Viking artifacts, like the rune stone pictured above. That one might be the size I need, but my curiousity about what was written on it would prevent me from throwing it (along with the entire city of Ostersund!).

So, I’m picturing myself throwing rocks at all the things that were said and done. Taking careful aim, and throwing with all my might so that it is completely knocked out of my mind. I’ve got a good arm, too!

It may take some time, but this way, I’ll always have enough rocks…

When You’ve Fallen Off Your Heels And You Can’t Get Up!

When You’ve Fallen Off Your Heels And You Can’t Get Up!

Some days, a girl can’t catch a break…

Scene opens: a romantic restaurant, early evening. I walk in, and I’m seated at a candlelit table for two. Rose petals cover the table.

Some enchanted evening, huh? Well, it usually is…

My husband was caught in traffic, so he arranged to meet me at the restaurant, and told me to start without him. He arrived just as the first course was brought to the table. Things went well until the waiter brought the soup.

My cell phone received a text message from our oldest son, who left home a few months back. As I was handing the phone to my husband for him to look at, it slipped from my hand into the bowl! Clam Chowder, no less…my husband, without missing a beat, swooped in with a paper napkin and took my phone to the rest room to clean it up.

When he returned with my phone, the third course had arrived. Clearly some ingredient did not agree with me, and I asked for some sparkling water to help ease my distress. This brought EVERYONE to the table to inquire after me, making me more than a little embarrassed. Was it food poisoning or too much wine? Curious glances from the other patrons spoke volumes.

We decided to leave as soon as my husband had his dessert. As we walked to our cars, I took a misstep at the curb and fell off my heels. My husband helped me up, assuring me all the while that no one saw me except everyone in the parking lot.

He stopped to rent a movie for me called “The Science of Sleep”-word of advice, DON’T make the same mistake! Fifteen minutes later, I was sound asleep…

*HUFF* This would be so much worse if I could stop laughing about it!
